Paul Airy’s first ever entry into an open exhibition yeilded him First Prize, with his piece, ‘Wave’.
Following on from the success at the Saltaire Arts Trail Open Exhibition, Paul Airy exhibited ‘Wave’ once again, alongside a new piece, ‘Fish and Bread’. ‘Fish and Bread’ was created in response to the unexpected, but welcome result at Saltaire. He said winning First Prize in his first exhibition was a ‘humbling experience.’
In his first solo exhibition, Paul Airy captures moments and emotions from his own personal journey, celebrating the value of ordinary everyday experiences.
He says, “We spend so much of our daily lives busily attending to our tasks, focused on our latest preoccupation, seldom pausing to appreciate the ordinary, yet precious moments we experience. I wanted to pause, consider such moments, and celebrate simply being.”
Emerging from his fifteen year career as a graphic designer, Journey is his first solo exhibition of artworks after launching his artistic career in June 2008. Since that time, he has won first prize at the 2008 Saltaire Arts Trail Open Exhibition for his piece Wave, and has exhibited individual pieces at Batley Art Gallery and at The Art House in Wakefield.
His work has clear references to his graphic design heritage, and reflects the clean, digital environment in which his work is created – clean, crisp and finished. Though usually simple in form, it is not simplistic, and often features motifs such as crosses, waves, spirals and geometric forms.
Following this exhibition, Paul will be exhibiting at the Saltaire Arts Trail once again, but this year his work willl appear in the Open Houses. More information about this can be found at www.saltaireartstrail.co.uk/artstrail2009/openhouses.htm
